
Giuseppe Biondi-Zoccai

Giuseppe Biondi Zoccai was born in San Remo, Liguria, Italy, on 25 July 1974. He obtained his MD diploma magna cum laude at the University of Milan, Italy, in 1999. He subsequently pursued specialist training in cardiovascular medicine, obtaining his Cardiologist diploma magna cum laude at the Catholic University, Rome, Italy, in 2004, with the late Prof. Attilio Maseri, also completing a research elective at Mount Sinai Medical Center, with Prof. Valentin Fuster. In 2004-2005 he completed his Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at St. Raffaele University Hospital, Milan, Italy, with Dr. Antonio Colombo, also specializing in peripheral interventions and structural heart disease.
Since 2006 he has served as Assistant Professor in Cardiology, until 2010 in the Division of Cardiology of the University of Turin, Turin, Italy, during 2011 in the Division of Cardiology of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy, and since late 2011 in the Department of Medico-Surgical Sciences and Biotechnologies of the Sapienza University of Rome, Latina, Italy. Since January 2018 he is Associate Professor in Cardiology at Sapienza University of Rome, Latina, Italy, where he routinely practices non-invasive and invasive cardiology on top of his education and research activities, also actively working as Senior Consultant in Interventional Cardiology, and most recently as Chief of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, at S. Maria Goretti Hospital, Latina, Italy, which is the busiest center in Italy for primary percutaneous coronary interventions. He has also attended doctoral courses in biomedical statistics at the Biometrics and Medical Statistics Institute of the University of Milan, Italy, and has obtained a Master in Statistics diploma at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome, Italy, in 2015.
As a whole, he has coauthored more than 1,100 articles indexed in PubMed, including several on the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, BMJ, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and, of course, most of those affiliated to the European Society of Cardiology, including the European Heart Journal, as well as several book chapters, focusing on many aspects of cardiovascular care, and in particular prevention and management of acute coronary syndromes. He has a h index of 122 in Google Scholar, for a total of more than 58,000 citations, qualifying him in the list of Top Italian Scientists – Biomedical Sciences. These figures correspond to a h index of 95 in Web of Science, with 35,289 citations, and a total of 1,302 indexed documents.
He is also currently Editor-in-Chief of an international cardiology journal (Minerva Cardiology and Angiology), Associate Editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, serves on the Editorial Board of several cardiology journals (including the European Heart Journal), has extensive experience as peer-reviewer for all leading medical and cardiovascular journals (having received dozens of Best Reviewer awards, including those attributed by the European Heart Journal), with over 1,100 verified review reports in Clarivate/Publons. He has also edited several biomedical textbooks, ranging in topics from, network meta-analyses, diagnostic meta-analyses, umbrella reviews, cardiovascular imaging, transcatheter aortic valve implantation, and, most recently, artificial intelligence in medical research, published by Minerva Medica, Nova Science Publishers, and Springer.
His research interests and expertise include: population-level research, epidemiology, clinical research methodology, evidence synthesis, artificial intelligence in cardiology, primary and secondary prevention of ischemic heart disease, coronary interventions, peripheral artery disease, and structural heart disease.
